As I believe that Chirpy now has a clearer picture of what did/did not happen, and who was involved, I will back off and hope that the dust will settle. Unfortunately a huge amount of damage has been done, which may not be reversed quickly/ever!
Someone (??RD??) must surely be questioning the actions taken and a statement on FOBL would not go amiss, as a first step in rebuilding Big L's credibility. Immature comments from some quarters have not helped, either(Not yourself).
A quick glance at the news headlines (NOT FSN!!!) will tell us that there are far more important things to worry about than one individual on one small internet radio station.

Only a few people on the inside will know if there’s been any impact on listening figures and good or bad, that info won’t (rightly) be shared across the internet.
I don’t know the ins and outs of what’s gone on, or any other relevant background info (I don’t really care in the great scheme of things) and nor will the vast majority of listeners. I didn’t hear the offending broadcast, and nor, I suspect, did plenty of others. Some might have heard Roger’s comment about Chirpy’s retirement. Some won’t. Lots will just have the limited info on the Big L website to go on. It might seem a bit odd to them but even so they probably won’t go off trawling the internet to find answers, they’ll just tune into the new schedule and carry on as normal.
Only a tiny, tiny proportion of listeners will ever use/see/read forums such as FOBL or Digital Spy. Even fewer, if any, will come across the rather obscure GS board. What’s written there (and on other forums) will have no impact except to some of that tiny proportion of people, many of whom have leapt at the chance to stir things up for whatever reason they do that. Some aren’t even Big L listeners but merely internet trolls. I’ve not read everything on the GS board – and most of what I did read was utter drivel – and I’m not wasting time on it. As I said previously, I’m not taking sides and I have no axe to grind. We are where we are.
If some people want to tune out in protest then that’s up to them, although to my mind, it seems a shame to stop listening entirely to something you enjoyed, over something that has happened and which you can’t influence… but there you go. Each to their own.
If Chirpy and Roger ever have an opportunity or a desire to build bridges then that would be good for everyone but that’s down to them and them alone. Not us.
I do agree with number6 when he says it’s time to let the dust settle and move on but please let’s not assume that what we here (and on other forums) have read/posted on various internet sites will have much of an impact on Big L in the wider world. It won’t.

1. I believe that Big L supporters are a limited group, most of whom do seem to post on various fora. Many of those posting are indicating that they will no longer listen.
2. It was pointed out to Simon, on Sunday, that only one person was listening. He made no attempt to repudiate and said that he was that one, but that he intended to carry on with the show.
3. I have listened to BigL since it returned in 2005, but unfortunately, in it's present form, there is no 'wider world'.
We are all in that goldfish bowl and if someone does something nasty, in that bowl, it affects us all. In hindsight, surely RD will see that, despite Chirpy being in the wrong, he (RD) could have handled the situation better. A simple statement to this effect and a rallying call to supporters, on FOBL, could work wonders.

You have no access to the amount of people on the streams, only the shout cast. I can assure you Simon had more that one listener lol! I know this for a fact. And of course I was in the studio and saw for myself all the emails. So whoever pointed that out was misinformed for a start.
Number6, you are mixing up 'listeners' with 'supporters'. Not the same thing at all. I was talking about listeners. Supporters might be a limited group and they (we) take the time to involve ourselves more than average be it through forums and/or emailing in requests etc. The vast majority of listeners don't do either. They may well be mystified by the last week's events but will be completely unaware of all the internet kerfuffle.
As for the number of listeners, I love the way some people conveniently continue to quote Shoutcast when they know full well (or should do, as it's been mentioned enough times over the years) that most people listen the easy way by clicking Listen Live which does not feature in Shoutcast or show figures anywhere public. Of course, this doesn't help their claims that Big L has only a few listeners, so it's routinely ignored. Shame on people.....
I'm home for lunch. 1 listener? Trevor posted that in MRN lol .. He was looking at the shoutcast which is on now and then. Our main server is wma, and the other 6 ice cast streams were pleasantly loaded . I would not waste my day off broadcasting to a handfull of listeners. I am also quite amused over the last few days at attempts to drag me into the topic. As for my big l show .. No likey no listen ..but plenty do so hey am I bovvered ... Nah Now lunch is ready so I'm outa here.
Lets look at the facts. We all know that in years gone by when Big L was on Sky & 1395 the RAJAR was extremely disappointing. We know that Caroline's internet audience is publicly accepted to be in the 100's and is higher than Big L's.
You can't help but notice on listening to Big L that presenter after presenter show after show say hello to almost the same regulars and even some of the deejays.
It really dosn't look like much more than a handful when I checked shoutcast which I know is only an indication of one source there was only 13 showing at lunchtime. I can confirm that prior to the "Chirpy affair" it was considerably higher.
I'll let people draw there own conclusions Simon I am only stating the facts and not picking a fight which is why I have kept off GS board since last week in the hope that it will now die down but unfortunately with some still going in all guns firing looks unlikely at the moment.
Did you know a very small percentage e mail in ..I listen to urrrr Kiss/heart/gold and have never e mailed etc ..I did send a letter to Radio 1 once in the 70s lol ...I wouldn't do it for less than 100 lol. Sometimes shoutcast shows a lot higher if the main server is off and shoutcast is used instead. The listen live on the main page is a wma and tune in etc uses the 6 other streams. No public radio player uses the shoutcast streams.
