I'll post a piccie when I get back home, but basically, it's a Skanti MF radio which is mainly configured for Marine MF use. (I think it's an 8035, not sure.)

I don't think I've found any it won't cover yet, apart from 88-108! That's what I use whenever KBC or Bigl or any of the others are testing and I'm "not at home"!!

Just thought actually, there are demo vids of these on Youtube. Type in Skanti HF and see what you get.

The one we use now runs 250w, however, the one I used to run when I was in Shetland ran 750w, both were heard all around the world.

Yes, you can indeed transmit on the Skanti, and we used to do it regularly until Holyhead MRCC was downgraded to a VHF Station only, but I still use it sometimes if I hear a ship calling another Station for a radio check but get no answer. I once spoke to one of the "Pride Of" Ferries which was in a Belgian Port and had called the Belgian Coastguard for a radio check on 2182kc/s but got no answer. I answered him from Holyhead to tell him he was loud and clear with us and he, being very surprised, replied that we were loud and clear with him in that Belgian port! ( I can't remember which ship or which port now.)

we all should help eric to keep Shortwave alive - SW is still real radio. So everyone who has a SW-receiver should try and if possible send him a reception-report.

5955khz test works well here in Southend with minimum fading, although I do have a 30m wire cable attached to my satellite dish back to the radio. Weather was bad but signal medium to good. This frequency seems to work better here in Essex than 6095-----has anyone else got a report yet?

I had perfect reception on 5955 khz. as good as on 6095 khz in downtown Munich ( 15.-€ coffee-shop-radio with telescopic antenna ) despite all the electronic mush we have arround here - maybe the sound-input is a bit louder (more volume). Regular SW-fading in the same degree as on 6095 khz.
- all in all a real success !!
(Nauen/Berlin is about 600km north of muc)

it was beamed 240° to the west so it was more directional to the UK as far as I understood; 6095 is omnidirectional - maybe this explains better reception in the UK.

Now now cheeky---my s/w radio is always tuned to KBC broadcasts but I must admit that 5955 has produced the best signal so far---most impressive.
And thanks, it's nice to be back---had 2 ops and now have to wait to see whether the mist will go or not.
