Hi Chris and all on the forum. Thanks to the Internet i'm able to listen to most of Steve's show here in Suffolk. I know that you won't, but don't bust a gut to record Steve if your job and i'm guessing your rota at work is stopping you from uploading past weeks programmes. As I've said before Chris, work sadly has to come first. I'm very grateful to shows you HAVE recorded after so many months. I've got a nice collection thanks to you together with not very good recordings of Steve and others on BIG L when they were on 1395am. The static and interference would sometimes get in the way especially when the transmitter power from across the North Sea was low. But in a funny way I kind of like that authentic old radio quality on medium wave. Call me old fashioned if you like. Digital and DAB are okay but when BIG L was on and the signal was booming in it took me back to the second golden age of offshore radio after the sixties pirates when i listened to RNI, Caroline and Laser 558. That's why I loved listening to the recreation (albeit on land in Frinton) of Radio London / BIG L so much. Steve, Ray Anderson and the other well known personalities really tried recapturing the spirit of that age. They introduced it to a new and ok smaller audience compared to their offshore radio counterparts. But given time that audience would surely have grown if things had gone in their favour. Anyway back to the present. Thank you again Chris for your efforts in recording Steve's Sunday show on Biggles FM. Don't let them work you toohard!!

Re. the Caroline North weekend, I enjoyed listening to much of the output online, but enjoyed even more, catchting the messy signal, when it came in here after dark. It has been stated on another forum, but not officially confirmed as I'm aware, that another weekend of RCN will be broadcast on 1368KHz at the end og October.

Re. power and signal of Big L: Not sure about the ill fated original transmitter, but when Big L returned in 2006, using the new Nautel Tx, afik it was always running @20Kw. Audio quality was superb, when you could get a decent reception. At its best, one of the nicest sounding AM signals on the dial. Of course, atmospheric contitions would have greatly affected the recieved signal.

When Eric got 1395 back on air in 2009, it was usually run @10Kw. A few sponsored shows were carried @20Kw. The difference between 10 and 20Kw may seem a lot, but I believe, in effect leads to just a 3db difference. As a rule of thumb, I think you need to quadruple AM power in order to double coverage area. But I'm no expert.

What did make a tremendous difference when at 10Kw, was the modulation settings (Optimod setup). At one time we were drowning in background mush. Once properly configured, it made all the difference.
