We can remember the GOOD times. Our memories are of times gone by- when things really WERE better!! We enjoyed ourselves when we were young. our music was truly superior to anything today. And think of all those lyrics from our times. Songs that really MEANT something e.g. Eve of Destruction-The Times They are a changing- We Shalll overcome etc etc. And also artists could actually SING- instead of all the vocal acrobatics of today!

Also- I see Paul McKenna is not included in the line up - so I am hoping for a 10pm Friday evening ‘taster’ broadcast from the Ross and via Caroline Flashback stream??? It hasn’t happened the last couple of RCN’s though- even though they are all on the Ross Friday evening.

Number6 - As I am listening now to the Flashback stream it doesn’t seem to be coming from the Ross on this occasion. On the Chris Pearson point - do you think this is a good appointment from the Radio Caroline point of view? I would think so - considering the dedication Chris has put into Caroline. I hope it will safeguard the 1386 transmitter that they were on the point of relinquishing a few years ago. I also hope Chris will be able to cement a permanent relationship between the two stations- and maybe bring Caroline into an enhanced position with the Manx am transmitter. Of course- don’t think Ofcom would like that. They may forbid any more advanced relationship - as 648 is specifically for East Anglia. Maybe Caroline Flashback could solely be involved - as it is only an on-line station - with no Ofcom license? But then maybe the two Carolines would have to trade as different and separate companies - like Rupert Murdoch has to run The Times and The Sunday Times as two separate newspapers???? Lots of questions.

No, - Big John - I don't know if 1368khz will be directional - but you can find out by trying different WebSDRs i.e. Kiwis like Grimsby's, Middelburg/NL etc. I personally think it will be directional again as I've read that both masts have been put back to work (??)
Yes- I received information that it IS back directional. Evidently the transmitter vis 10kW but with the two masts- the power is effectively 20kW. Maybe they HAVE to be directional to comply with their license. Mind you - since BBC local radio has vacated 1368??

You're right about last night. I didn't get anything except non stop 60s on Flashback between 10pm and midnight. Given the weather, they were probably more concerned with getting everything running and bringing the inside up to temperature. I was on the Ross during cold weather, last winter. It was minus 7 INSIDE the 'floating metal box' and cold and clammy everywhere. From Friday evening arrival, it was Sat lunchtime before we could move around without several layers on. It also depends on the tides. The tender can only go out at certain tidal conditions and if this means a late arrival, on board, there is no time to get everything started and warmed up. There is a Restoration Crew out there next weekend, so think of them with their multiple layers on. I won't be there as I will be on a Northern Lights trip, so I may be even colder!
As for Chris Pearson, he is a professional radio man first and a Caroline volunteer second, so who knows. It certainly won't work against Caroline.

Personally- it would be far too cold from me. Maybe the Ross weekends could be suspended Jan/Feb and extra weekends in the spring and summer months?
Imagine what it would have been like back in the 60’s with those ships floating on the North Sea!!!??? And then there were those Forts - probably with NO heating whatsoever!!!

They said (on Facebook) its warm and cosy on the RR but they had to warm up themselves and the rooms first when they climbed up to the ship

Maybe being directional helps Manx Radio to create better reception in Dublin and to acquire some advertisements from there (?) - In Dublin it should come in like a local AM-station now
