Can someone here in Britain remember the name of a mobile (cellnet) phone service back in the late 80s.
A friend and myself was trying to remember the name of this phone service that lasted only about a year because of cost and also because it was`nt very good and infact was laughable.

They had low level transmitters at local shops, pubs, petrol stations and other places along the roads of built up areas of Britain, but none in country areas. That could be why they failed.

When someone wanted to contact you your mobile phone would buzz, thats when you had to find a phone point along the road. Each phone point transmitter only had about a 20 yard range so you needed to stand very close.

The only way you knew where a phone point was in use was a large sign on the wall, and if the sign was outside a pub the publican or owner of the pub sometimes turned the transmitter off to save money when closed.

It was a usless service that might have looked good on paper but not in the real world. The phones themselves was priced at over £250. The calls you made was free but someone buzzing you was charged I think at about £ 5.00.
We was trying to remember the name of this one time ridiculous phone service. Can someone here remember the name.

Oh yes it was rabbit thanks. I remember now. I can now remember all the signs along the road. I never had one myself because at the time i had a pager. Thanks now I`ll call my mate and tell him.

The phone box. I can remember those so well.
Whens the last time you saw a phone box. I hate mobile phones and only own an old one my wife used to have before getting a new one.
I keep it in the car glove box for emergencies.

Oh yes those were the days....press button A to be connected or press button B to get your money back but always remember to inspect the handset especially the mouth piece first before you put it to your mouth in case anybody had left any 'nasties' in it.....at least with mobile phones they are more hygienic

I never used mione at a phone point ever. Only with the bese station I still have at home. They are vastkly superior quality of build to the cordless phone's you get nowadays (which sound dreadful too). They are almost as good as the day I bought them.

Thats good you can still use them at home. You must be like myself and hate to throw anything away if it works.
Our loft is home to many things I once owned but only because of style or maybe a few scratches on Im not allowed to use anymore,


Yeah, bit of a horder really! I find that the quality of many (if not most) things made today- leaves a lot to be desired.
I guess it is mostly Chinese and very cheap.
For example; Some of the tools imported from China are a total disgrace. I bought a hand file last year, and it rusted within a week! Crikey, that is bad!
DVD players and recorders don't last very long now at all, and cheap pencils are the lowest quality of all- drop them and the lead shatters in about 20 places. Buy a decent Staedtler (German) and spend your money wisely.
