Guess what? That didn't work either
Contrary to belief, the technology for both ideas was available but costs for air TV was astronomical and basically lived in the brain of dear old Ronan and Laser's idea was expensive, wasteful and someone forgot to take the true weather conditions into account concerning wind etc.
Everything always looks good on paper [including Coastie as Banana Man] but putting into operation takes just a bit more, although we have had TV from the moon and mars [maybe faked]
Wonder if we will get BigL from a blimp hovering over Frinton----now there's an idea for Roger to ponder over

They should have asked a Coastguard to calculate the weather for them!

Seriously though, there is a North East of England Police helo which sometimes calls up Humber Coastguard on vhf 16 and we at Holyhead have answered him to get a radio check. We usually manage to speak to him and that's with both of us using 25w on FM.

They were on one night and he had quite a few radio checks. We got him, Liverpool CG got him, Milford CG got him, Swansea CG couldn't hear him, but Shetland and others in the north, perhaps unsurprisingly, got him.

Synopsis

Television takes to the air in this short news report about the first BBC attempt to film Britain aerially, using a Bristol freighter plane, the Giant Brabazon. The test footage of St Paul's Cathedral in London gives us a glimpse of what was included in the programme, which was aired on 1 October. This disrupted the television schedules.
Did you know?

The technical difficulties on the test flights included effects of plane vibration on the camera, radio interference from taxis and lorries, and the transmission aerials breaking down or not having enough power. Most of these problems were resolved and the BBC film crew, RAF and Bristol Aeroplane Company felt that they learned a great deal about aerial filming from 'Operation Pegasus'.

The BEEB then tried a second test but not until 1955---result rubbish but as usual they kept squandering money until eventually success but along comes Murdoch and Co with satellite TV and no need for planes----well, the idea was there.

Well, if barrage balloons were able to be kept airbourne whatever the weather during the war I'm sure that Laser could have held on to an aerial balloon.
