Yes you are right. But most of these stations have to be low budget these days. It's a shame, because American oldies station were always the stations where you could find a great mix, great DJ's (live shows, not syndicated) and great PAM/JAM jingles.

Laser and radio england was indeed slick with great DJs and jingles. DJs with great radio voices and unlike anything else that could be found anywhere on the dial.
Sometimes its the jingles and station idents that stands out way in front of the music they play. It gives the listener something to identify themselves with.

Reaper , I think your`v hit on the magic formula to make a station stand out. It must be different. Its got to have that special something no other station has.
When you think of the amount of 60s / 70s and 80s internet stations that are out there playing and sounding the same its good to find `One` that hits the spot.
I agree KBC does stand out and I dont think its just the music it plays. Its the true love of radio that it generates from its output and that alone is enough to hook you in.

Its a shame the big named DJs had so much influence in the running of the station. Its also a shame it used 1395 which made them go silent between 7pm to 10pm.

They wanted it to be another `Radio Two` but that was never going to happen.

Eric's KBC is indeed the best station I am listening to. It's ''hand-made'' radio again with good music and nice DJ's. I am very thankful that Eric keeps the good radio on the air.

As far as concerned about Big L: there were a few big mistakes Big L made in the past in my opninion:

1. An AM output (1395 AM) that almost nobody could receive. There's so much money wasted on the AM 1395 transmitter, I am sure with that money they could have hired a nice transmitter in the UK.
2. Too much laying back in my opinion in the belief that Big L would work some day, but making a radio station successful al begins with good marketing and constantly being visible for listeners.
3. indeed a few big name presenters (who weren't that great by the way) who had too much influence while they had not really much knowledge about leading a station.

I really enjoyed Mike Reads show each morning especially his interaction with the listener. Even his views on the news for that day made me smile.
The problem was when he brought other well known names into the station and each one I imagine wanted huge pay packets each month.
I think (if im correct) David Hamilton only joined Big L because his bid to offcom for a local Essex fm station fell through and he lost the bid.

Another good DJ was Randall Lee Rose together with Steve Garlick and Ray Anderson made it a great station to listen to.
It was most certainly a good station back then and should have been a success. Its such a shame it all came to a close.
