This is interesting. Its Wonderful Radio London.
Playing 60s / 70s and 80s with a few album tracks every so often. Loads of BIG L and Radio London jingles and the news in Dutch.

Its strange because I was under the understanding that the Radio London jingles was copyright and untouchable, set in stone by the owners.

You are right mike .. Chris and Mary Payne have European copyright ... So let's enjoy this great tribute whilst it lasts :-)

I think Roger could do something about it too. Some of the jingles are from the BIG L collection. Its a Dutch station and maybe the law is different in that country.
Which ever way you look at it its something that will be interesting to see the out come, and if these tests will last.

Im not sure but I think this could be a hoax. They dont seem to have a website, this could be because they say they are on `test` but its just a feeling I have.

Listening to it now...have played some good stuff,Morrisey/Smiths,Savage Garden,ZZ Top....too modern for the new Big L as they only play 60s and 70s

I'm guessing, but i don't think it will come to much! No announcements! No future intent as to what they exactly have planned to do. Maybe this will come in time...but i won't hold my breath. Would love to be proved wrong. If only they had a transmitter site somewhere in Holland and could do it properly like the Ray Anderson Big L.

I understand it is possible to get permission from the Paynes to use the Wonderful Radio London name. Ray allegedly went the wrong way about it in 2005 by using it without there permission. I note on the Wonderful Radio London website that they point out that they have no connection to Big L Ltd.

BTW are the Radio London jingles being played yesterday & today on Big L being used with or without the Payne's permission?

Don't need permission to play the jingles .. The only way to break copyright is to say you ARE radio London which we don't :-)

Why not have the original 'Wonderful Radio London' re-sung/edited into 'Wonderful Radio Big-L'?

Any radiostation can legally call it self a 'radio', 'wonderful', 'big', 'colourful' etc.
And remember 'Big-L' was not only used by wonderful radio London but also by Radio Luxemburg.

Simply replace the word 'London' with the word 'Big-L'. Just imagine these jingles:

- This is wonderful radio Big-L
- You're hearing things on wonderful radio Big-L
- It's smooth sailing with the highly succesfull sound of wonderful radio Big-L
The list goes on...

The use of the word 'wonderful' would really bring back the magic of the offshore days.
Hello Ray?

I thought that the Payne's were quite close with Ray Anderson at one point way back when the Radio London RSL's took place. Obviously a fall out took place with the Payne's registering the Radio London Trademark in the UK.
That is why they can stop stations using the name in the UK, or identifying itself with any jingles that mention the name "Radio London".
Why there is such a fuss over a name that was used by a station way back in the long forgotten mists of time, I can't quite figure out.
Most people are probably not old enough to remember the original Offshore station, and if they did- I doubt they would care whether it returned to the air in any guise.
BIg L, Radio London what is the fuss all about?

It's what the station produces that counts, not the name it uses. Too much living in the past doesn't do free radio any good. REMEMBER the past, at times re-kindle sweet memories of it, but don't bury yourself in it- cos it won't come back.
Free Radio stations need to re-invent themselves a lot more to make an impact... especially now as the commercial sector is quite frankly- dire!
