Live programmes start tomorrow with the Dutch service (Waddenzee) kicking off at 7am and Seagull from 7pm (CET).
It says that it is the last radio ship---it's not and we all know that it's not. I can listen to the same music from Caroline----The Jenni Baynton has never played from the high seas---it's a toy and a clone of Caroline which like Caroline is normally broadcasting from landbased studio and tx onto the net. It's really just a local radio station for the Dutch and not a ship pirate as was Caroline. Caroline was and is, still the station for me and thousands of others---it will always be No1. Col.
Unless they up the power the signal on 1602 being at sea doesn't improve much I'm afraid. The "usual" reception is coastal only it might just get a few extra miles but I doubt it will get as far inland as me. They really need about 8kw to make any difference.
I agree with you Col the music on Seagull doesn't do it for me too much weird stuff for my liking.

The ship has been moved from Harlingen off the island off Terschelling which is closer to the English coast. - Just give it a try and tell us if there's a difference to your regular reception. The saltwater also should have an improving effect. B/TW/ - they say they are the " only 'workable ' radioship " - and not that they are the only radio-ship - And when they start broadcasting from het Waddenzee tomorrow then its true what they say. - So lets give them our support. Mind, that eric's transport-radio will also be broadcast (I assume relayed) from the Jenni Baynton as he told us in another thread

Bob van Beeten's Onderweg (relay of 6095) will start on September 1. We are on the ship on Sunday afternoon August 31. They are broadcasting from the Waddenzee, not from the IJsselmeer, so they have salt water enough, but power is limited for 1602. Have to take a portable with me ...otherwise I'm missing the RNI happening 0n 6095 :)

Stupid me !! - I always mess those 2 (Waddenzee en Ijsselmeer) - though I really should know ... .....
I tried 1602 khz with Twente-receiver (Enschede) - not much difference - not any better ( http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/ ) with Bedford remote - perhapes a bit better ( http://www.radioremote.co.nr/ ) 0.8 KWs are just not enough - they really should have bought 1395 khz license 2 years ago to give them some scope
Think you'll be very lucky to get 1602 in Southhampton Chris. I've never managed to get it at Bognor, although they came in sometimes while testing on 1395.

In August 2014, it will have been 40 years since the Dutch MOA closed down the Dutch offshore radio stations and it has been far too long since the last remaining radioship in the world was out at sea. In August 2014 Radio Seagull will be broadcasting live from the LV Jenni Baynton, anchored 3 miles off the Dutch coast.
Can hear it in Mid Suffolk on car radio. Can identify voices and songs, Dutch presenter speaking in English about 4:30pm UK, but not really listenable except for us saddos! It is better than 1602 from the landbased tx.
We all have opinions. Mine is mine, yours is yours. Don't tell me yours is mine. I think that I was wrong once, but then again, maybe I was wrong!!

I said "workable " (funktionstüchtig in German) - and not "working" - "working " they are only now - so what about keeping the glasses for yourself Col ??? I am not sure if they are really 3 miles off the Dutch Coast as they have anchored near the island of Terschelling (which is yet Dutch ) - Coastie probably can locate the Jenni better with his GPS-tools English programs, Radio Seagull start at 7pm with Paul Newman's show - hopefully saltwater helps better during night-time - I will give it a try of course

If they have AIS aboard and it is switched on, (as it should be if it's installed) then I can probaly have a look for it when in work on Saturday or Sunday if we're not busy.

It is certainly a stronger signal here in Norfolk during the day with Waddenzee listenable in the car 30 miles inland from the east coast but unfortunately by the time Seagull starts its lost in the mush as usual.
If you look at the map Terschelling Island is quite in the north of Holland so actually only the East-Coast of Norfolk (at the beach) probably gets a viable signal. - Its amazing that David still gets a listenable signal 30 miles inland - mind its only 800 Watts ... - For a steady skywave the signal obviously is too weak - but early in the morning it could work.
As I said above I tried a few times today but heard nothing only mush.
Living here in Gants Hill Ilford which is about 40 miles away from the Essex coast I used to listen to BIG L on AM so well but Seagull doesn't break through at all.
