I have a Java supported mobile phone ( basic version of smart-phones) which connects into i-net via 3G and W-LAN - For Java and Symbian phones VR needs a '32mbs- mp3' stream which BigL formerly had but which has been switched off so that VR can't take the stream anymore. This is a pitty because VR is free (also for the transmitting station itself not only for the user) and it works on all (!!) types of smart-phones.
But other stations like Caroline, MAR or Replay work fine

So I think it would be more clever to use both possibilities to gain a bigger audience for BigL though figures probably may have slightly changed in favor of high-stream.
I also think less mega-bits would be consumed when having a flatrate for 3G reception......

Both versions of VirtualRadio (Java and Symbian) can play low bandwidth streams. With a low bandwidth stream 350'000 users of VirtualRadio with normal mobile phones can be reached!

High bandwidth streams: MP3, 64 kbps, stereo with 44.1 kHz or MP3, 128 kbps, mono with 44.1 kHz. Please use Shoutcast servers or Icecast servers. MP3 only, not AAC!

A high bandwidth stream can only be listened by users on a 3G operator’s network or having a modern phone with Wi-fi capability (WLAN)! Only the Symbian version of VirtualRadio can play high bandwidth streams. With a high bandwidth stream only 10% of the listeners can be reached!

Should you have both, a low bandwidth stream and a high bandwidth stream, both streams can be included. Just fill in the following form twice.

Seems to me that listening from a phone would only be in mono anyway (what phone has two speakers?) so a mono feed would be fine.

thanks Cookie - the big disadvantage of i-net radio is that it is expensive to listen to it in the car as streaming eats up a lot of your bit-rate account - so I think a 32 kbs mp3 stream in mono would be helpful to propagate car listening via your smartphone and as VR is free for user and provider and as it works on every smartphone I think it is a helpful tool to give car-listening a try.
With an adapter (we had it about that already) it works even on older car-radios that have only an old fashioned cassette-slot. - Plug the adapter into your earphone jack and you have (now had) Cookie on BigL in best sound-quality

like you can plug your phone into your car-radio you can plug it into your valve -radio ( via the record-player socket on the back) e.g. and you'll have the warm crisp sound of AM reception and it sounds like real radio then ......
In this case you use the W-LAN connection for your smartphone of course

whatsoever - as you still have no antenna on your car mobile listening would be a viable alternative for you - but 'wat de boer niet kennt dat freet hij niet' (what the farmer doesn't know he doesn't eat)

I listen to minidisc in the van anyway.
