These two Dutch frequencies are now silent-at least up here in the east Midlands. Are they still clear in your areas? Anyone know whats happening to them? Have they been re-allocated? They were brilliant for international reception up here- both all day long.

That is very sad! I know theres phallic symbolism there too!! But demolishing the mast so quickly? Oh dear!!

Yes, very sad. Both came in well here too. They both ceased Tx on Monday @ midnight CET. Check out my post on "Video of the day" thread to see what happened to the mast on Friday.

Thanks Cookie-will do. If anything-this proves its only us diehards any longer interested in the am frequency. At this rate it will eventually be empty and just die. Looks like instead of a handful of stations with massive numbers of listeners-the future is masses of internet stations with just a handful of stations each. A really 'niche' market.

Perhaps that's what some in government think, make lots of money flogging it off, but I suspect the Mw/LW parts of the spectrum are too low in frequency for high speed data comms and too prone to interference to provide reliable data tx. I'm no expert. But that's one of the issues with DRM. Analogue AM is robust and cost-effective. AM can cover wide areas during daylight and far more after dark. The reverse is often true with DRM. Coverage area decreases after dark, as distant signals skywave in and corrupt the data stream.

I didn't say it didn't work, just that usable reception area decreased after dark, as opposed to analogue. This was one of the observations following tests by the BBC, using the old am tx of iirc BBC Devon Plymouth.

And to think I used to MW DX Newfoundland and New York stations every January after the European ones had shut down during the 1960's and early 70's!!!
